A modern tale of fortune-telling in the world of West Texas oil rigs

Check out writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV series on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, will serve as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases, so that they can drill for oil and gas.

They’re well-written and entertaining

Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker housing (camps), supervise the assembly of excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, fixers, problem solvers, and facilitators. Referenced in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). Apparently I’m a fan of Taylor Sheridan’s shows.

It’s grossly gratuitous

I’d happily watch anything with her makeup attached at this point. But what’s up with the girl in her underwear and the creepy sexualization of her? It’s extremely weird how obnoxious she is in that way. It’s almost so off-putting that you don’t want to watch.

It’s really a head-scratcher

I’m invested in the story so far. I also don’t understand why the women are so completely unlikeable. The ex-wife is just yuck. Is the show just meant to attract men?
