Synopsis

Reminiscent of Rock Hudson in “Giant”, he tries to stick to the old ways

Kevin Costner is the patriarch who presides over a dynastic ranch the size of some countries. His way of life has been encroached upon by resort developers, tribal rights and state power in Montana. Yellowstone moves quickly with little introduction, but its story unfolds at the natural pace of a day in the desert, pausing for tribal rituals, cowboy conventions and political machinations. It’s a massive undertaking that straddles the line between law and justice, family and friendship.

Land and family are his life force

Costner fulfills his character’s duties naturally, it seems. He is a world-weary man who has seen too much and lied too often. He can hear footsteps coming toward him, but he can only fulfill his role out of habit as much as loyalty. Although some of the action is a little confusing due to the lack of explanation, it feels natural, as if the viewer is getting a real glimpse into a slice of life in another world.

I am raising my rating to a “9”

I hope that the resolution of this saga involves an emotional payoff that justifies its scale and attention to detail. Updated 07/20/18: After four episodes, this series has a strong voice and a relentless pace. We learn the fullness of each story, from the roots to the fruits. A new season of ‘Silo’ is one of the biggest TV and streaming news this month.
