Synopsis
Following the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, puts on a show to take control of Gotham’s criminal underworld. From melting makeup to filming in freezing temperatures, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti talk about how they landed their roles during production of The Penguin. Colin Farrell fought hard to have his version of the Penguin smoke smokable tobacco in Batman (2022), but failed. For his own series, however, the character was portrayed as a casual tobacco user with a penchant for cigars.
I’ve never seen Farrell so invested in a character
The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Featured in Graham Norton and guests: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). So the first episode is over, and it was great.
He’s Scorsese’s mobster, but without the fancy language
I mean, he wears a fat suit, but you’d never know it. His posture, body language and voice make you immerse yourself in the character and just see the Penguin. No relation to any of the other live TV Penguins, Burgess Meredith or Robin Lord Taylor. This is a New York mobster, a smart guy.
Very entertaining and highly recommended
The plot is simple, much like Lord Taylor’s Penguin in the CW series “Gotham”. Penguin is a middleman in a mafia organization. So far he’s been serving his time and slowly working his way up in the mafia, and then, given the fallout from the Riddler blowing up the city walls and the death of his boss in this film, he sees an opportunity to move up in the mob world. Now the game starts with Cross, Double Cross and, I think, Triple Cross.
