Synopsis

A girl’s gift for events in Hollywood films changes the fate of her family in rural Chile in the 1960s. In Odavde do věčnosti (1953). Screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, this film is both a tribute to the American West and an exploration of the power of film/storytelling to change lives. With Spanish subtitles, the characters are taken from life and a rather difficult life. A community located in “the driest place on earth” is not unhappy. There is plenty of room for light comedy and young love. The camera turns away from the actual violence, but not from the story, which openly tells about what is happening behind the scenes of the salpite desert city at the heart of the story. The film was shot on location in an abandoned mining town, which only adds to the versatility.
